Year 2011 has been in many ways challenging in the global business environment, not least in Europe where we have faced difficulties even with some national economies. However, the global laser market in 2011 was expected to continue growth, fueled mainly by fast growing industrial laser market and continued evolvement of new application areas. While final market numbers are to be finished for this year, Modulight is happy to announce that we have again contributed to the growth of the laser market in 2011 by about 10% increase in revenues compared to 2010.

The growth in 2011 for Modulight can be mainly attributed to building up business with new customers and also new business areas, whereas the business from returning customers remained largely at 2010 level. We are also happy to start year 2012 with a strong order backlog of half the last year revenue, which is a good sign of improved business visibility.
In 2011 Modulight continued building up capabilities and business in medical and health care fields. We signed up for several new business cases to develop OEM laser solutions to applications like therapy and diagnostics. This work was further supported by the receipt of ISO 13485:2003 certification in October 2011 proving to our clients that our processes support directly medical equipment manufacturing without any compromises. As a proof of performance, Modulight completed the first CE certification of a turnkey OEM laser therapy system in December 2011. These significant milestones are promising a bright future for Modulights medical laser business. Along with medical field, Modulight continued its business in laser projection and displays started in 2009 and signed up to develop also sub-system solutions for that segment. Both of these new business segments complement nicely the existing growing business in defense and industrial applications where Modulight has already built up over the years long-term customer relationships.

Blue LimeLight - the most recent addition to the LimeLight product range. Blue ( 1W@465nm) single-emitter based laser systems are well suited for medical diagnostics and therapy. Example applications in medical field include acne treatment and teeth whitening.

Blue laser systems can be also used in a variety of other applications, such as illumination and laser projection.

Multi-chip red laser modules of the FiberLight product family: for industrial, display and medical applications. The released products fill in the gap between the butterfly packaged single emitters and fiber coupled laser arrays already represented in FiberLight family.

The laser modules can host up to 3 or 4 laser diodes which are coupled to a single 200 5m core fiber with NA=0.22 and terminated with a standard SMA-905 connector. A typical configuration includes a thermistor and a TEC-element for temperature control and a photodiode for power monitoring.
